In the early summer of 2017, my wife and I became really interested in the world of Tiki and rum cocktails. So, we purchased a copy of Martin Cate's Smuggler's Cove.
Inspired by the cool deliciousness of a Dr. Funk (or two), I began sketching letters inspired by the Munktiki mugs I was looking at online. These are not the official versions, of course!
Never Forget to Get Drunk is a pink elephant who had a little too much to drink. This lettering captures that drunk and playful feeling.
Octopus is a mug that has the octopus enveloping the vessel. or the design I liked the idea of representing the curvy octopus tentacles moving around.
Primitive Tiki is inspired by an African mask. For the lettering, I wanted to give a sense of rawness, as if the letters were carved into wood.
